dating outside my comfort zone...

normally i tend to date much younger(like early twenties). i don't look for it, it's just what happens to find me. (might have something to do with my part-time skateboard fetish)

sure i would much rather date someone my own age...but they date girls in their early twenties.

enter the south african, he's 11 years older than me. this is new for me. i've known him via work, by phone, for over a year. he's smart, successful, witty and after finally meeting live, fairly handsome. so when he asks me out for a proper date, i am curious to see how the older man thing plays out.

we planned to meet at uva on the upper east side, 2nd ave between 77th & 78th. great date spot btw. yummy wine list & italian tapas. super packed at 8...go earlier or later if you want to beat the crowd. (i like crowds)

date started off badly, he called me 3 times in 5 minutes before i got there, to update me on his whereabouts.

i'm going to sound shallow but his head bobbed up and down like a bobble head when he spoke. made me dizzy...not to mention he laughed after everything he said eventhough not remotely funny, a total turnoff. on top of this, he knows that i'm a former producer/writer and tells me that he writes and wants to get a book off the ground and the first hour of the date was spent talking about the process and trying to milk me for info on how to go about getting an agent. sexy.

i start tuning in and out of the conversation, eyes glazed...thinking about how i am going to make my escape prior to dinner. did i mention that he was VEGAN? i was a veg from 11 - 30, so i sympathize but he went on a 20 minute tirade on how unethical it was to milk cows. don't mind people being passionate about what they believe in, but no one needs it hammered down their throat. i should have stayed through dinner just to order the veal. ;)

i wont bore you with the rest, i made my escape, work relationship in tact. have a date with someone new this weekend....we met at buddakan at the communal table and played spin the blackberry...

love u
